Upgrading Overview

Equipments base stats and abilities aren't the be all and end all to it. Equipment in Perfect World can be upgraded to improve their base benefits and stats, or make them more versatile.

Players can upgrade their equipment via 2 ways in the Perfect World. Those are thru Equipment Refining or Soul Stone Fusion.

Equipment Refinement Overview

Infusing equipment with the power of Immortal Stones Increases an equipments base stats. The stat improved depends on the type of equipment refined, while the amount of bonus depends on the level of refinement.

The table below shows how much refine bonus you get for each successful refine level:

Refinement Process

Refining requires a special material called the Immortal Stone. There are various ways to acquire immortal stones. Those are:

• Monster Drops
  On very rare occasions monsters have been known to drop complete immortal stones.
• Break down 3-star equipment
  This is one of the most common ways to acquire Immortal Stones. Breaking down 3-star equipment produces Immortal Stones. The amount of Immortal Stones acquired is dependant on the remaining durability and level of the equipment to be broken down.
• Quest Reward
  Certain quests have Immortal Stones as it's quest rewards. Although it is much more common for them to give Immortal Stone Fragments or 1 of the 3 Celestial Stones.
• Jeweler NPC
  Jeweler NPC's allow you to combine Immortal Stone Fragments, Heaven Celestial Stones, Common Celestial Stones, and Earth Celestial Stones into Immortal Stones. Simply select the quest option and choose the desired combination you want to produce Immortal Stones. The two combinations are listed below:
  • 25 Immortal Stone Fragments = Immortal Stone
  • 3 Heaven Celestial Stone, 3 Common Celestial Stone,
    & 3 Earth Celestial = 1 Immortal Stone

Refining can be done thru different NPC's, the most common being the Castellan's and Elders of each town, territory, and city. Simply talk to any of these NPC's, and select the refine option, and the window shown below should pop up:

The Immortal Stones must be in your inventory for you to begin refining equipment. It takes 2 Immortal Stones to refine weapons, while it takes 1 Immortal Stone to refine other pieces of equipment. Drag the desired equipment to be refined unto the window and click on refine.

When refining there are 4 possible results (which can be seen in the history portion of the window):

• Refine Successful.
• Refine Failed. Refine level unchanged.
• Refine Failed. Refine level decreased by 1.
• Refine Failed. Refine level reduced to 0.

It becomes more difficult to get successful refinements as the equipments level, quality, and refine level increase. There are however items that can improve your chances for successful equipment refining. Two such Items can be found in the Item Mall.

Soul Stone Fusion Overview

Infusing soul stones into the equipment slots allows the player to increase certain attributes of the equipment depending on the soul stone attached. The diff. kinds of soul stones and their abilities are the ff:

* Not to be mistaken with crafting jades.
** Soul Stone effect when slotted into weapons
*** Soul Stone effect when slotted into armor, accessories, or manteaus.

The bonus given by the soul stone effects depends on their levels, with 1 being the lowest and 12 being the highest.

Equipment fused with soul stones also gain different special effects, such as glows, ligt trails, etc. The kind of special effects depends on the type, number, and level of soul stone attached.

Fusion

In order to fuse soul stones with equipment, a player only needs the soul stones and slotted equipment. The amount of soul stones which can be fused into a slotted equipment is dependent on the equipment's number of slots. The level of soul stone you can attach should be equal or less than the slotted equipments level (found underneath the equipment name; not to be mistaken with the equipments Lv. requirement).

Soul stones can be acquired thru different means listed below:

• Monster Drops
  On rare occasions mosters may drop Soul Stones. Higher level monsters drop higher level Soul Stones.
• Quest
  completing certain quests also reward you with Soul Stones.
• Vendor NPC
  Vendor NPC's sell Lv. 1 Soul Stones.
• Alchemist NPC
  Alchemists sell Lv. 5 Soul Stones, and also provide the service for upgrading Soul Stones to higher levels. Upgrading Soul Stones is similar to crafting where you simply combine the raw materials to create a higher level Soul Stone (no skill required). Below is a simple chart which you can use to see how many Lv. 1 and Lv. 5 stones you need to make higher level Soul Stones (the recipe can be seen in game as well).

Once you have the slotted equipment and the necessary soul stones, head for the required NPC and choose the Soul Stone Fusion option. The ff. window should pop up.

Drag the slotted equipment and soul stone into the window, the yuan costs for the fusion should appear, and the click the confirm button. Fusion never fails so there's no need to worry. Repeat the process for other the next soul stones and equipment to be fused together.
Should you find yourself with undesired soul stones fused with a slotted equipment, you can have the NPC's remove the attached soul stones through purification.

Simply select the purify option with the necessary NPC based on the equipment, and the window below will pop up.

Drag the equipment to be purified into the window, then the yuan cost for purification should appear. Click Purify and all the soul stones attached will be destroyed. Purification destroys all attached soul stones and will not return them to your inventory. So before you purify a slotted equipment make sure you really want all the soul stones removed.

F.A.Q.

• Q. How do I get the special glows to equipment?
  A. Special glows start to appear the moment you fuse 2 level 5 soul stones into a slotted equipment.
• Q. How do I make my equipment leave SFX trails/lightning/etc.?
  A.The enhanced glows/trails/SFX appear the moment you attch 4 Lv. 8 soul stones into a slotted equipment.
• Q. Why can't I attach a particular soul stone into a slotted equipment?
  A. First check if the LV. of the Soul Stone is equal to or less than the slotted equipment. You cannot slot higher level soul stones into lower level equipment Also check if you are talking to the corrct NPC and you have enough yuan for the fusion fee..
• Q. Where can I find Lv. 2,3,4,6,7,8,9,10,11, or 12 Soul Stones?
  A. Those soul stones are dropped by monsters, but this is very rare. The easiest way to find these soul stones is by having the Alchemist NPC Upgrade/Synthesize them into higher level Soul Stones.
• Q. Can I mix and match soul stones?
  A. Yes.
• Q. I read here that weapon/armor stats can be varied by Imbuing a soul-stone into it. I guess the wep/armor needs a socket for that. My current level stuff doesn't seem to have any sockets. I'm assuming higher level equipments do. At what levels do items start having sockets and at what level do I need to start using them?
  A. all made / dropped items have a chance of sockets. weapons can only ever have a maximum of 2, and armour 4. jewelry doesnt have sockets.
• Q. If I were to disassemble a weapon I had imbued stones into, can I get the stones back? Or do I just get some Yinguan (white stones) which I cant seem to do anything with?
  A. You cannot get the stones back. The Yinguan stones can be used to create certain items at the apocothary as well as fuel the "burst" function of your flying mount
• Q. I read lower grade soul-stones can be made into higher level stones by the jewel craftsmen? Is there any similar method to convert ('refine'?) lower grade mats into higher grades?
  A. soulstones can be upgraded to higher tiers, mats cannot
